Professional Rough Stock Series Opens 2014 Campaign in Wyoming

Buck n Ball to play host the 2014 Season opener and 4th American Qualifier

(Gillette WY ) - The Professional Roughstock Series 2013 Season just concluded but all eyes are locked on the 2014 campaign. It begins on December 31, 2013 in Gillette, WY at the annual Buck 'n Ball at the Wyoming Center at the Cam-Plex at 6:45 p.m. In addition, the fourth round of qualifications for “The American presented by the Polaris Ranger” will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday Dec. 30th.

“We just finished a spectacular 2013 season for the PRS and we are excited to get the 2014 campaign underway in Gillette once again. It is going to be an exciting race for the 2014 Championships,” said PRS President, Spud Whitman.

The event has become a New Year's tradition for the community of Gillette who pack the Wyoming Center for the roughstock event and the dance that follows. Once again this year Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band will provide the entertainment. Some of the PRS' top riders from the 2013 season are expected to compete. Top stock contractors that will provide the horsepower and bull power include Burch Rodeo, Powder River Rodeo and Cervi Championship Rodeo, among others.

The Cam-Plex will also host the fourth qualifier for The American on December 30th at 3:00PM. Professional Roughstock is the sanctioning body that will determine the open qualifiers for bareback and saddle bronc riding for The American. The top five riders in each discipline will join the previous qualifiers in advancing to the semi-final round in Mesquite, Texas, on February 22, 2014.  From there, the top five semi-finalists will move on to The American in Cowboy's AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, March 2nd. The open qualifiers are eligible for a $1 million sidepot should they defeat the top ten NFR riders in Arlington. The American will offer a $2 million payout, making it the richest single-day rodeo event in history.

PBR World Champion rider Justin McBride has entered the qualifier in Gillette as a bareback rider. It will be his second attempt to qualify after his intial attempt in Salina, Kansas, in October. McBride is a former high school champion bareback rider and competed in that event during his college years, prior to bull riding. McBride currently holds the record for all-time career earnings in western sports events.

The Buck n Ball is the 1st stop on the Nationally televised 2014 PRS Tour. The series features the three most exciting and dangerous events in rodeo -- Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, and Bull Riding. Defending champions from 2013 are: Zach Phillips in bareback, Corey Maier and Jarrod Ford in bull riding and Troy Crowser in saddle bronc.

Tickets are on-sale now and are available at The Cam-Plex and Wyoming Work Warehouse. Tickets for “The American Qualifier presented by Polaris Ranger” are just $10 each for ages 2 and up and are available online at or at the Cam-Plex located at 1635 Reata Drive, Gillette, WY 82718.
